CDR's come up as Audio Disks

When I try to use Data CDR's in an LG CD-Rom they come up as Audio CD's. I thought the drive might not be compatible with CDR's but when I shut down into (true) Dos mode it recognised. The problem is I need to run it in windows. Any Ideas?
