something went wrong with windows98plus. i formatted.repartitioned.formatted again.tried to re-load windows98 from cdrom.did not work. booted from a windows98 startup disk. the following message comes up. DEVICE DRIVER NOT FOUND: 'MSCD001'. NO CDrom

The WIN98 start-up disk provides an option for CDROM support. (I know the 2nd edition does anyway--not familiar with WIN98 plus.) It will install a driver and then you can load the OS.
