Comment:

I need to install windows 95 again as I have a corrupted registry, and I cant get the cdrom drive to work.
I've got the lines in the config.sys file of DEVICE=(CD-ROM driver) /D:MSCD001 and the autoecec.bat of MSCDEX /D:MSCD001 /M:4 for the cdrom but it wont detect the drive.
It would be great if someone could help out.

John's right If you have a boot disk with the cd-rom drivers on it then use that...
If u only have a boot-disk that will bring oyu into dos then you need to make your autoexec.bat and config.sys say the things they say.. but where it says /m:5 they are the buffer and maybe wrong,Edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and look for the line containing MSCDEX.exe. There should be a "/M:" switch somewhere on the line. Set /M: to values of 5, 10, 15 and 20 (i.e. LH C:\DOS\MSCDEX.exe /D:MSCD001 /M:20).
If this still fails Push del at boot or somtimes ctl+atl+esc to get into your bios and check everything is fine in there.. (if you dont know what your doing then get someone else to) Or last but not least it could always be a simple bugger up in ya whether or not your ide cable is in ruight or power!
