CDRom works in DOS but not in Windows

The CD ROM icon no longer appears in Control Panel System Device Manager. I removed it when my original cd player broke. I installed the new cd player, and Windows does not recognize it and freezes when the CD Rom is plugged into the secondary bus. When unplugged, Windows works fine. I have a Funai E2920 cdrom, which is supposed to run on the drivers provided by Windows. I ran windows setup again, but that didn't help. HELP!
