Hi
When i boot my computer my CD-ROM opens and when i click the open/close button it wont close, it will actually try to open even more. I can only close it manualy by pushing the tray. Anyone has an idea????
Thanks for the help

I found this on the internet:
"Other ways of noticing that you have been infected by a virus are strange behaviour from your PC. It may act like its "alive" - as though it is responding to the actions performed by the user. This could be a cracker having a laugh at the users expense. If the CDROM opens and closes unexpectedly, that is another common cracker way of getting some laughs".
Might want to scan for a virus!

If you have ever closed your C.D. with your
hand and not the button on the drive you have probably knocked it out of time by jumping the gears in the tray.If that happends, replace the C.D.They can be fixed
but you had better have the patience of a mother with a new born.

I've solved a similar problem today.
CONDITION
-------------------
If the CD-ROM drive opens the tray every time you insert a CD, but stays closed if you don't insert a CD, then maybe this will help (I got the idea reading "-" in 43146):DIAGNOSIS
-------------------
I opened the CD-ROM drive and noticed that the top cover was scratched from the inside. The situation is that when you insert a CD, the head pushes the CD and the CD pushes a metal part upward to almost touch the top cover.
If the top cover is bent down, then the metal part will not stay up and will push downward the CD and the head, and this will eject the CD.
SOLUTION
-------------------
Bend the top cover of the CD-ROM upward from the inside pushing exactly the place of the scratch, then reassemble the CD and it should work.NOTES
-------------------
- Don't try to do this if your CD-ROM is covered by a warranty (but I'm almost sure that it's not, because the bending must be due to the heat received by the top cover for several years of use).
- Don't be nice when doing the upward bending of the top cover. Remember, the one and only alternative to this solution is to buy a new CD-ROM drive.Good luck.
