Could some one point me to a review of a CD-rom drive by Mutsumi a model CRMC-FX4821 on the internet someplace?

I can't find one.

I think it's a CRMC-FX4821T but I couldn't find any review using that model number either. If I was going to write one it'd have to be about mitsumi drives in general. And it would be something like:

"The mitsumi 4X and 8X cdroms were real work horses and lasted forever. Later models seemed to fail sooner than comparable drives manufactured by their competitors. I have at least a couple dozen used cdroms in the 30X-50X range and I don't think a single one is a mitsumi. And that's not because I refuse to use them; it's because when I test them they're very often bad."

Dave...

Think you are correct. Pulled it out of closet from plastic bag just yesterday. Mine squeeks a bit, but keeps on going. The higher priced (and supposedly faster, and quieter) replacements have pooped out already.

Just cannot find anything about them on internet, except something on even older models. Back in the 3.1 days. Was mainly writing to find out if any one here knew of them, and could aim me in proper direction.

The toshibas in the 10X-24X range were good. I pulled a lot of those out of old gateways and they almost always worked. I don't think I've used any of their newer models.

I've gotten several used Sony CDU5211 that I haven't had any problems with.

I guess with cdroms it's good to have 2 or 3 extra lying around as they can go bad at any time.
