Does anyone know how to turn on and or off the CD-Rom reader? I had a problem awhile back and a repair shop told me the "reader"
was turned off. They told me they just turned it back on and all was well. They
did'nt charge me anything so it must be easy.
Anyone know how? Thanks for any replies in advance. Bill Jr.

Does the CD light flash when you put a CD in? If so, when you blow out hard does smoke come out of you mouth? Not a kind comment, but it sounds like *****t to me. Other than disconnecting the CD Cables or disabling the CD in the BIOS, I don't understand what your "tech" said.

It's pretty hard to tell what they did. Turn on/off sure was not the right way to say it. It `might' have been disabled in the Device Manager. But there are several things that can cause a cdrom drive to quit operating. Why not ask them exactly what they did?

Hi y'all,

Bill Jr,
Maybe we are misunderstanding your question..Cd-Roms are wired direct in the PC..They only read when you insert a CD..There is no switch to turn it on or off..Try again to refresh your question..We want to help...

From other comments, I don't think that I wasn't the only responder who was puzzled by your question. But .. don't bother me none. Ain't MY problem.

I put a CD-RW disk in an old CD-Rom which was working fine. The CD-Rom started up and shut down. I thought it died. I took it to the repair shop and left it. About two hrs.
later, they called me to pick it up. They told me the CD-RW had "turned off the reader". They just turned it on and all was fine. I don't have any more info than that, sorry. Again, any help is appreciated. All but the smart A#$ answers. Thanks Bill Jr.
