OS is WIN98. Some software programs I cannot installed, in particular Quicken, Turbo Tax. error message, "can't run Setup.exe". I tried to use Add/remove in the control panel to install the program.
CD-Rom: NEC 272

The NEC 272 is a major headache. This is a very common reading data from the drive. You best bet is to replace it.
