Sigh ~

I dunno wat happened to my cd rom , earlier today, i can play games with it , then after
i shut down and restart my pc, the cd rom can't read anymore, it keep saying drive is not accessible and not ready, what probably is the cause ?

no exclamation mark in device manager,no drive in compatibility mode, so, what else ?

does this have to do with the config.sys ? or DirectX ? coz, i have errors there, and i think i fixed it .

thanks

It sounds like a blown driver for the CD-ROM drive. I think I would delete all the drivers for the CD and reboot. Windows will reinstall it for you. Good luck.

Sounds to me like the drive has died. But to confirm this, boot from a win98 floppy (with cdrom support) and see if you can access it from Dos. If not, the drive is dead.

PC Bob,
how to delete all the cd rom driver ?
i already tried to remove it from device manager, and it reinstall it and without any problems.

broni,
yeah~ sigh~ no luck

max,
when i run msdos mode with cd rom support, the cd rom drive letter became E:
so, i access it, is it by typing "e:"?
and the "e:\" appear, is this OK ? i forgot what i typed, but sumthing like cdr101 not ready, and ask me whether to abort or retry or "cancel"<-- i'm not sure with this

and i think i messed up in the bios, i dunno what to put in primary and secondary slave auto ? user ? which one ? i'm confused

Accessing CD ROM from DOS gives you not much. It may be OK "electrically" speaking, but, for instance, lenses are gone, and it can't read anything. You can buy those CD ROM cleaners, but buying a new CD ROM comes to a same price.

i have the same problem! it started suddenly. i cant read any cds, but everything else seems ok. i can even access the CD disk information in my burning software without any problems.

but i noticed i can not mount any CD image file (iso) from harddrive, it has the same symptoms like the real CDrom, "insert disk in drive...".

i do not understand this. both of my cdroms do not work. in my other operating system everything is fine.
