After I installed Win98 my CD started to misbehave. It cannot seem to read software disks properly any more. It hangs and makes noises. I also suspect I may have errors in my autoexec.bat & config.sys which but comparing back to Win95 system files obviously setup has changed with new commands. I append my autoexec.bat & config.sys
can anyone spot the problem. I have a 4X Sanyo CRD254P CD-Rom. It worked FINE under 95. And I suspect the problem is not hardware. I have been helped with a suggestion to obtain new busmaster drivers for the chipset from the motherboard's site (thanks "mune") but I am still not sure if the basic config is hosed. You see I partitioned my hard disk and there are several hard logical drives bumping the CD Rom down to drive letter "J:".
Yikes~! Any help much appreciated.
Thank you,

The autoexec and config from 98 is from an incomplete install. These are what get created during the initial setup. What you should probably do is boot up into MS-DOS with F8 and see if the CD-ROM comes up as a device. If it does, put your win98 cd in, then manually go to the /win98 directory and type setup. It will reinstall 98 over your current one but it should allow the installation to complete normally. You won't lose any configuration you already have. Also check to see if Sanyo has an updated driver just for 98. The 95 driver may not be compatible with 98.
