CD-ROM drive won't play music CD's

Hello. When I put a music cd in my cd-rom it spins-up, but no sound comes out of the speakers. I tried using Winamp and then the Windows Media Player, but neither produced any sound from them. The cd-rom spins the disc, and the indicator light blinks as though it's playing the cd. I can play MP3's and other audio just fine, and the cd-rom works perfectly otherwise. The driver for the sound card is installed properly, too. I checked the volume settings, none of the options are "muted", and they all have the right balance. I think I just might not have an option checked somewhere or something like that, because my cd burner won't play them either. Any help?? Thanks.
