A week ago windows stopped reconizing my CDROM (drive D). "My Computer/ Properties/ Device Manager" no longer shows a CDROM listing unless I boot up in SAFE mode. I've pulled the cables out and put them back in. The motors and door all seem to be running ok. Best I can figure there is some registry error or some dll file is not being run. Since the drive is not running I can't even reinstall windows 95 to try and fix it. Any suggestions?

Did you try to start windows from the windows recovery diskette? If you are in windows and the cdrom is recognised then you better change your config.sys file to include the cdrom driver which is listed on config.sys file on your diskette.

Are there Yellow exclamation marks in front of the Primary and Secondary Ide Controllers in the Device Manager?

Same problem. I reinstalled win98 from cd on bootup (it works that way) and I sometimes have it in safe mode. IDE controllers have problems, but reinstalling the drivers doesn't seem to make any difference. I put in an old cdrom which was working, but the laser is clouded over. It's recognised in the BIOS but not by win.
Anyone any ideas?

Thanks

Bill
