Hi
I have formatted my hard drive and would like to load windows 95 back on. When I booted back up with the start-up disk I keep getting this message 'CD-Rom DEVICE DRIVER NOT FOUND' I have even tried a windows 98 start-up disk and selected it with cd-rom support but when I type in D:setup I just keep getting 'BAD COMMAND OR FILE NAME'
Does this make any sense
Can anyone help...Grant.............

Hi Grant,
When you booted up with your windows 98 boot disk.START COMPUTER WITH CD-ROM SUPPORT
as it is booting up you will see what drive letter has been allocated to your cd-rom. Try it again and make note of it.
I have one I downloaded from BOOTDISK.COM that Allocates R: and S: I have a cd-rom and cd-rw.

i have looked for a drive letter and i cant see it for some reason i keep getting 'device driver not found mscd001' i have also been through the alphabet for the drive and everything comes up as invalid drive specification.
i think that old thing need dumping...
ta grant.........

Your cdrom is probably connected to a sound card or other adapter that the bootdisk doesn't have drivers for. Either that or the cdrom is bad. Some bootdisks have more extensive driver support. As others have suggested, check at bootdisk.com. You may need to go to the card manufacturer's site to get the drivers.
The 'device driver not found mscd001' message is generated by mscdex in autoexec.bat being unable to load because the cd drivers weren't loaded in config.sys. Mscd001 is just the name given the cdrom by the driver. It has no relation to the drive letter given the cdrom by the OS.
Also, it might be a misprint in your original message, but the command to load windows would be 'd:\setup' and not 'd:setup'

ok, i think i had the same problem, then, I did....
1st. go to the bios and if you can see audio options, yo have to disable, then insert the drive a: and "LISTOOO!!" you can see the CD-ROM Drive, if you are trying to Restore the original Windows or install a new version, yo can do now...
tell me if i can help you..... and sorry for my bad english

I have the exact same problem but I tried the bios thing but I can't access the bios for some reason. I know that normally it says press 'Del' for bios but it doesn't give you that option, it just loads up 'start computer with CD-ROM support' etc. screen. How do get to the bios from there?
