HI
I'm having a problem with my machine detecting the CDROM on start up. It can't detect it in the BIOS (or in Windows) and when I get to Windows, there's yellow marks beside the Primary IDE controller, Secondary IDE controller & Standard IDE hard disk controller.

I tried a couple of CDROM's (both were good) but they couldn't be detected. I unhooked the HD(which was being detected fine) and hooked up the CDROM to see if it would detect it in the BIOS but it didn't.

Anybody know what might be going on here?
Thanks
Homer

Homer,

For a similar problem, take a look at:

Is it a standard CDROM or is it a CDRW or DVD Drive ??

A Lot of CDRW's & DVD's will only work if you set them as Master and have any other devices on the ribbon set to Slave.

Also make sure that you have each device plugged in in the correct order along the IDE ribbon cable. And make sure that you only have one master and one slave on each ribbon.

Simon

Go into cmos and make sure both IDE controllers are enabled. Boot and go to device manager and remove all the IDE controller hardware. Then reboot and see if the're OK after windows reinstalls them.
