Please help. I have an Atapi IDE interface cd-rom drive. Apparently the driver is generically included in Win 98. My problem is that the driver seems to be corrupt and also my autorun file won't run! I can't find a way to update or copy the driver. Can anyone help?

When windows is useing it's protected mode drivers there is no info on the driver tab in system. If a cd rom device is listed in system then it is useing the protected mode driver. These drivers are in the IOSUBSYS folder in system. This folder loads into memory automaticly at startup. The files can be extracted from the cd from a dos prompt or a win98 program is avaiable to extract files.

If you install a dos driver that is loaded by config.sys then the cd rom will work in windows explorer but will not show up in system devices. In performance the cd will be listed as dos compatibility mode. There will be no autorun feature.
