Same problem again we thought it was fixed BUT still have this annoying problem. It is intermitent and I called our pc help desk and was on line for 2 hours they tried every thing and do not at this time seem to know what the problem may be, the last thing they said was if all esle fails a format of C: would have to be done..this I hope I can avoid. We have a AMDK6/2 350MHZ chip and also have 128mb Ram and use win98, we did have the win98se upgrade BUT unistalled it and now run only win98. This problem is intermittent also, when I put a CD in in the CD-Rom it will start and then when it is turning for some reason it stops as it shuts the whole pc down!!!! After we restart and scan disk sometiomes it will be ok...it actually started after we started to use Creata Card and WP7 (if we try to install) but both do work on our other computer. Has any one experienced the same or similar problem? Any one have any ideas? Please help if you can. I also use Norton Systems Works and have disabled all but the virus program. Thanks for any help...Yesterday it was working grat as I was able to reinstall WP7 and the Creat Card and also Win 98 BUT today I cannot even run the Creata Card disk as then it shuts down the pc. Every thing else works ok and even we can play audio cd's with no problem.

Check the properties/settings of CD Rom drive in device manager. If DMA is enabled, (checked), uncheck it. Some systems are unable to use DMA for CD Rom, and if enabled, will lock up.
