In need of help on getting my CD_ROM drive to play audio cd's. I seem to have tried it all and I'm running out of options. The CD-ROM reads data cd's, as well as the contents of an audio cd...but once I push play for it to play the audio cd i get a message: "Data or cd not loaded". I've uninstalled the "cdplayer" and installed back per suggestion to no prevail. ANY HELP would be appreciated!

Having same problem. Am also running Win98. Can go into msconfig and disable your UDF file system, although it didn't work for me. I also uninstalled and reinstalled CD Player, and in the process I noticed mcicda.drv driver wasn't loaded. But even after laoding it, it didn't work. I've looked for conflicts etc., and haven't been able to identify the problem. If you find answer, would appreciate knowing answer.

Having same problem! Also running Win 98.
Have Toshiba SD-M1202 DVD-ROM, REAL Magic Hollywood MPEG-2 playback card, and Diamond MX300 sound card. Am burnt out trying to resolve this. Toshiba, Sigmadesigns, and especially Diamond, have not been helpful!

I am having the same problem. The first time I set up windows, it was there, but somehow it got resolved, much to my pleasure. However, now that I have reinstalled windows'98 after purchasng a higher capacity HDD, win'98 hangs whenever I play the CD in CDPlayer or Deluxe CDPlayer or any CDPlayer at all !! Any solutions ?? I am using a Pentium 200MMX 32MB Ram 4.3 GB + 1.7 GB + 12X CD-Rom with Ess1868 Sound Card and CL5446GD Display Adaptor card configured at 1024X768 Display at refresh rate of 60 Hz. Please Help !!

I'm having the same problem. Also if I try to run the media play the computer hangs. If
the cdrom is unpluged the computer doesn't hang, the media player plays and the cd player gives the "no device present" error. I have tried different CDrom Drives, changed processors, motherboard, sound card... real shotgun job, and nothing. By any chance, is anyone else using a Gigabyte motherboard, an AMD processor and PC100 memory?

i finally figured out what the hell was doing this.. i went to my cdrom properties in the device manager and unseleted the "DMA" option...i had allready tried reinstalling windows.. tried reinstalling the cdrom driver, the MCI multimedia driver for the cdrom.. none of this worked until i unselected the DMA option.

I have an sd-m1202 which also had the same problem (GO! Microsoft). I resolved the problem by disabling the UDMA function in the BIOS for that particular IDE interface. I am, however, able to access the drive while still using the DMA option under control panel\settings\cdrom properties. Hope this helps! Also, if you have an older drive w/ slower access and seek times, don't slave the DVD off it. This hurts the DVDs performance.

I have a gigabyte GAX5 I think, an AMD K6III 450 and 190 pci 100 sdram. I also have a sound blaster 128 pci, a voodoo2 3000 AGP card, 14 GIG HD and PCI internal V90 modem.

My first problem was when I tried to play Tomb Raider 2. The machine kept on locking up. I tried using win95 but at the end of the setup I got an I/O error. When I tried to play an audio cd the machine hung. I knew there was something seiouly wrong. I have since bought windows98 second edition and so far it works fine.

Please feel free to contact me.
