i have a cd rom that does not work properly. when i put in a cd, it plays for 5 secs then stops and says the cd cannot be found... the cd is still playing, but it says there is no cd. it does the same when i play an avi off a burned cd. I can play a cd straight through, but if i want to choose tracks or pause or stop then i am out of luck i removed the cd rom in windows and then restarted, it found the cd again and worked correctly for the first cd, but when i removed it and put in another, it went back to how it was.... any ideas anyone????

Is this true for all types of CD? genuine Audio as well? Have you tried different Audio playing software? ie from the audio cards manufacture? Try cleaning the lens, it might be dirty, If the CDROM is old it might be having difficulty finding the tracks, cleaning can sometimes be usefull I've seen this before with houses where people smoke heavily, gets everywhere believe me

All my CDs do this, audio and video, in any program... i noticed in the mscdrom.inf file that for general or unknown cd roms that there is only a line for 1 and 2x and my cdrom is a generic 42x... guess its time to get a new cd rom....

I have trouble with my CD-ROM drive. The door is sluggish to open and when I put the disk in it sounds like it is trying to spin, but barely does at at all. When I press the desktop icon to start the CD it says to insert the disk; even though it is already in. Then it says "could not locate CD-ROM drive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
