I installed a CD Rom drive about a month ago. Worked fine until a few weeks ago. The computer didn't recognize the drive as a CD RW drive, but as a "Removable Media" device. It won't read CD-R's. Instead, a message pops up saying, "This disk hasn't been formatted. Format it now?" I hit yes, and says something like this, "Driver does not support formatting." I go to Control Panel>System>Device Manager, locate my drive, says there it is a CD RW drive like it's supposed to. How can I get it back to where it was? Please help. Thanks.
P.S.: My config.sys file is missing. Could this have something to do with it?

Is this an Internal or External CD-RW drive?
What is the Make & Model of the CD-RW drive?
What Recording ("burning") software is used for this CD-RW drive? Did you try to Uninstall&Reinstall the Burning Software.
Is your "CD-R reading problem" in the above device, confined to CD-Rs burnt using the above device, CD-Rs burnt in another PC, or any Data CD including commercially produced ones?
If the above CD-RW drive is an Internal IDE device, is it recognized by the BIOS Setup?
In the Device Manager are there any error symbols in the IDE-ATAPI controllers [Primary & Secondary]Was there any Configuration changes [Install/Uninstall of devices/Programs] or Virus infection/Removal before the onset of the present CD-RW drive problem?

The drive is a internal IDE drive. It is a Buslink drive. See, my computer is too old for the drive to burn, so I can't burn with it. (I'm going to upgrade my computer) But, the drive reads ok. Before I knew the computer was too old for the drive to work, I deleted the drivers for my old CD ROM device. (I thought there might be a confict) But, before I deleted them, I made a copy of the drivers in ZIP format. I deleted the old drivers, (I wasn't using my old drive) restarted my computer, and then the computer reads my drive as a Removable Media drive. It used to read the drive as a CD ROM device. I reinstalled the drivers that I had deleted, and the same thing is happening. Now, I can't read CDs, or Write either. I uninstalled Nero Express, and I can't reinstall it due to my drive being messed up.
My computer that the drive is connected on, does not have internet or virus infection.
The drive is set on Secondary Master. The model is a LITE-ON LTR-52327S, about 1 month old. Thanks for any help you can give me.
