This question has been asked and answered many many times in this forum.
At the top right of this page is a Search utility. Type in your posting subject line (Cd rom not detecting) and click on Go Search. You'll get numerous answers.

Go to PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM in CONTROL PANEL and see if it's running in msdos compatibility mode.
