my old system is running win 95 and my cd rom isnt workin, there is an icon in my computer for it but when i try to use it, it says device isnt ready or something like that......what do i do? any help would be appreicated.

If this happens with a number of data CDs ( there by ruling out dirty or damaged CD; if only one Disc is available, cleaning its non-labeled surface of the using a soft clean cloth (Not paper whose fiber may scratch)from center to the edge in a radial manner (NOT circular wiping)] and if it is unlikely from a dirty Optical Lens of the CD-ROM drive [If a dirty Lens is suspected cleaning it with a CD-ROM drive cleaner Disc to rule that out must be done] the most likely cause, especially if no one has opened the case, [and caused disconnected or lose cables) the most is a dead CD-ROM drive. The obvious treatment is Replacement with a new one.
