Hey, You might want to check in the BIOS to see if it sees the CD-ROM drive. Some BIOS don't detect that stuff unless you go into it and check for it. Also, make sure the IDE cable that you hooked into the back of the CD-ROM is in tight. Also, are there any other devices on the same cable? If there is another device on the same cable, you will have to adjust the jumper settings. Post back with your results.

Abi, You are flogging a dead horse:( Presence of power LED or opening when the Eject button is pressed indicates only that you have connected the power cable. The old PC had 'aborted' this 'dead Device' in it and transplanting that same rejected device in another PC won't revive it:-( Newer CD-ROM Drives with faster Read speeds are now avilable dirt cheap and if lucky you can even get them free after Rebates. Some of us mentioned all possibilities for your CD-ROM problem on your original post, CDROM help

Hello again, Well, if there is only one drive on the cable, hook it up as a master. If there are 2 devices on the cable, hook the cd-rom up as master and whatever is under it as a slave. Excatly what devices are going on the ide cable? Knowing this will help out.

HELLO EVERYONE, I don't think I read your original post, so I went and looked at it. After reviewing it, MaadhuriMN is probally right. Your CD-ROM is toast. And if you're still wondering about the boot order, I like to have it boot off a floppy first, then the CD-ROM, then the HDD. But that's just my personal preference.
