If you don't get an answer here, go to
www.driverguide.com
and do a driver request.

If there is one out there, you should find it there.

First check the Sanyo support site, then the Compaq site. You'll probably have better luck at the Compaq (HP) site, but the Sanyo site should have the better driver.

It's here:

http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/armada/us/locate/1_911.html

They didn't list drivers for dos but this page is for win 3.1 which uses dos drivers to set up the cdrom.

Driver questions should be posted in the computing.net Driver Forum.

But if he'd posted it there he wouldn't have been blessed with my stingingly precise response.

Or maybe it should have been posted in the dos forum.

But if the OS had been win9x it would have been appropriate to post here as he'd be referred to a bootdisk site or told that 9x uses it's own drivers.

Maybe he asked for the drivers only as a precursor to windows installation.

Many people post non 9x questions on this forum because they get better and quicker responses.

It just doesn't seem all that important where it's posted as long as the question is adequately answered.

Thanks to everyone

Especially DAVEINCAPS for pointing me to
the EXACT driver I was looking for, I have set up my hard drive with this driver and I am now ready to install windows 98

Sorry to ShutMeUpOrDown for offending you.

Although I am gratefull to everyone above I still have a problem.

When I go to the the cd rom and select DIR via DOS it comes up with this error message:
CDR101: Not reading drive D
Abort, Retry, Fail?

Does this mean my cd rom has died?

I know the computer is set up correctly for the cd rom cause when i remove the cd rom from the bay a little bit I get this message:
CDR101: Door open reading drive D
Abort, Retry, Fail?

Is my CD Rom Faulty?

Is there some test in DOS I can do to test this cd?

Thanks again to everyone :)

Those laptop cdrom's can be a bit screwy. Sometimes you need to keep hitting 'retry' to give it more time to spin up.

Otherwise clean the cd and make sure it works in another computer. Try different cd's in the drive to see if that makes a difference.

The best dos test is what you did--make sure it's identified and then see if it gives a dir listing.

If none of that helps I'd say the cdrom is bad. The cdrom can be detected by the drivers but still be bad.

Thanks for all your help

:-)

I will get the sister computer next week
and then i will swap the cd rom,s to test them.

Even compaq support seem to think its a
hardware issue.

Once again Thanks everyone

:-)

Not offensive to me.. The reason i ask you to post in the correct forum is so that valid 9x questions dont get bumped off the front page as quick.

Im not a 9x user so it doesnt bother me at all.
