I need help installing cd rom driver in win 95. It is a creative labs quad speed which the bios auto detects as a Matshita CR-574. I have loaded the creative drivers, and the drive works perfectly in dos mode. Win95 automatically loads the Matshita CR-574 CD rom. When I load the Creative drivers, they just end up with a yellow exclamation mark. The Matshita CR-574 drivers, doesn't have a driver tab in the properties, so I can't replace it. Even if I delete it, install the creative ones, after the reboot, the Matshita CR-574 is back again. The problem is that the Matshita CR-574 device, seems to think that all data cd's are audio cd's.
I have been working on this for days and would love to get it fix. Any help/suggestions would be appreciate.
thanks

Hi Andrew
Firstly, Creative Labs rebadge other manufacturer's equipment and yours was obviously made by Matshita. However the drivers one receives with a CD Rom are usually DOS drivers as Windows 95 has its own set of suitable drivers for ATAPI devices which are automatically loaded when WIn 95 recognises and identifies an ATAPI device, in your case a Matshita CR-574. There are usually no specific Win 95 drivers needed. Why your CD Rom sees all CD's as audio and not data is a mystery to me though.
When you load your drivers as described do you see reference to them in autoexec.bat and or config.sys ? You should as these are needed for DOS operation as you seem to have.Good luck - I hope this info is useful

Thansk for the info.
I have now got it working. I downloaded the drives for the CR574 from the net, and they worked perfectly. Not sure why it didn't work with the original drivers, since all I changed was the mother board.
Anyway, it all seems to work ok now.
Thanks.,
