Shut down windows and choose to restart in msdos mode. At the prompt type scanreg/restore and enter. Choose a registry to restore with a date that precedes your attempted installation.

And whatever else you do DON'T install Goback. It's junk.

When you say you tried to restore the registry but it didn't work do you mean you were unable to restore a previous registry or do you mean you were able to restore it but it didn't fix the problem?

It's probably a good idea to reinstall or update the motherboard/chipset drivers. They should be available on the disk that came with the motherboard or on the motherboard manufacturer's site.

You've got a VIA chipset so go here. With 98 you'll probably want the older 4 in 1 drivers toward the bottom of the page, although check the instructions to see if later versions are specifically recommended for your particular chipset. If you don't know, just use the older version.

"Also do I have to create a partition for my CDROM drivr?"

I'd like to see you try - not possible (or desirable)

IDE controllers are (surprisingly) what you connect IDE devices to - such as hard drives and CDs (Google?)

Chipset drivers are required by Windows in order for your computer to function properly
