CD drive wont play music cd's

i'm running windows 98 on a 400mhz AMD.my cd drive (sony)will read and install software but it wont play music cd's.i can see it reading the cd and the tracks advance but i get no sound.i got all the windows sound so i know the sound card is good and the cd is connected to the sound card .thanks in advance

Do you have the patch cable that goes from the CDROM to the card? You can play any sound that is within your hard drive without it, but you have to have that cable to play CD's

yes the cdrom is conected to the sound card

Check the volume controls. Double click the yellow speaker in the systray.
