In an effort to correct some problem with an old machine, re-loaded windows from original disc. It detected a bad registry so it picked an older version and restored it. Now, CD burner is not detected in bios on boot up. So, it's not detected in windows in system file. I went through this when I put the burner in but hey, that was 5 yrs ago. Something to do with updating BIOS and chip. Any help out there? Thanks, Mike.

Time for you to physically reseat the optical drive's IDE cable and clear the NVRAM before rebooting.

Even an old bios should see the burner--it'll view it as another cdrom. The problem just about has to be cmos/bios setup, jumpers or the connection.

are the jumper settings correct, if this is the only drive you have or want to make it the master drive set the jumper between M and A. if the drive is on an IDE Cable with another drive like a hard disk set the jumper to slave between S and L. if that makes sense to you
