I have been trying to play classic games, such as Quake 2 and Descent 2, and the game itself runs fine. However, the CD audio doesn't play. I am able to play the audio using any media player. Virtually every game I have using CD audio has this problem.

You probably are missing the small audio cable from the cdrom drive to the sound card.
