Comment:

When ever I try to open the game "freecell" I get general protection
fault on CARDS.DLL, and when I try to open "soliter" I get the game
screen but with no cards, and I am not able to deal cards.

I tried to switch the cards.dll with another one, but it didn't work.

what can I do?

thank you.

I would uninstall the games then install them. Go to Control Panel. Open Add/Remove Programs. Click the Windows Setup tab. Click Accessories(not the check box). Click the Detalis button. Uncheck the Games check box. Click OK,OK and restart the computer. Repeat the steps except this time put a check in the Games check box.

Ok EFRAT. What didn't work? Did it not let you uninstall/reinstall? Or did you successfully uninstall/reinstall without any problems and you STILL get cards.dll error when you run the game??

If the later is true, you need a new cards.dll file. Write me and I'll send you mine.. what the heck? Good luck

Lazarus

I tried replacing the file, and still got the same error. Do you have any other suggestions, or any other ideas as to what may be happening?

There is another version of cards.dll on your system that is conflicting with the one that is in the system folder. Do a broad search and find all versions of cards.dll and rename the bad ones...

I'm just missing cards.dll entirely (a friend sent me the app). Any chance of someone sending me the dll file?

Wishing you all freecell meditative supertwin powers.

I am also having trouble with Freecell and Cards.dll
I have uninstalled and re-installed several times and also changed the cards.dll file.
Still getting the error though and I do not have another cards.dll file anywhere.
Any ideas please.

Same problem here.
Only one cards.dll, in system folder; did uninstall/reinstall from controlpanel/winsetup; 16-bit code still causing GPFs with plenty of _available_ user and gdi memory heaps (so why is it a gpf at all??).

Tried [un]registering the dll, regsvr32 reports "A device attached to the system is not functioning".

Stackdump, if it means anything to anyone, follows:

FREECELL caused a general protection fault
in module CARDS.DLL at 0001:00000903.

Do any of you who are having this problem have Norton "CleanSweep" installed? I started having this problem after installing Norton Systemworks. When you want to play, do a Cntl-Alt-Del and "end task" on CSINJECT.
Freecell comes right up. What impact this has on CleanSweep, I can't tell you. My next stop is the Symantec web site.

OK .. this problem is acknowledged at Symantec's web site. There is a knowledge base article saying the cause is unknown, but that either temporarily or permanently disabling CSINJECT will cure the problem. The only impact is that monitoring of programs and system modifications will not occur when CSINJECT is not running.

I'm not sure, if it is really connected to Symantec's Clean Sweap. I have never installed any Symantec's application, but I have the same problem with Cards.dll. Does anyone know the reason of this errors? In my opinion it may be a virus activity or even some trojan. In the same time cards.dll problem started annoing me I've noticed reports from my ZoneAlarm firewall, that some strange application is trying to access the internet... If anyone has similar experiences, it means that these problems could be connected. What do you think about it ?

What is the strange program? Scan your drive with an up to date virus engine that detects Back Orfice and subseven routines. Download BoDetect if you are not sure.

eureka.... I did a ctrl-alt-delete and shut down Clean Sweep's CSINJECT and everything works again. It didn't dawn on me that this happened after Installed Clean Sweep. I used Clean Sweep to uninstall programs and the computer didn't work afterwards. In particular one of the programs I uninstalled with it was WEBHANCER and afterwards none of my browsers would work. THey would dial the internet but couldn't connect.

I guess I will uninstall Clean Sweep and write them a nasty letter. IMHO, a program that messes up your computer is a piece of junk.

A word about Webhancer. It is a program that gets installed on your computer without your knowlege when you download and install other programs. I got it when I downloaded Earjam, and also when I downloaded and installed Cressendo MIDI player. Webhancer is a program that runs inthe background and reports how long it takes to get a response to a website when you click on one of the links. I think it is an unwanted invasion of privacy, especially since it was installed without my consent. and worse yet if you use Clean Sweep to uninstall it, your computer will be broken and reinstalling Windows, MSIE and Netscape won't make it work again. you have to reinstall WEBHANCER.
