I had a problem with my system and had to reinstall "Windows setup" now I can't view certain web pages. I read some of the posts on here about security and changed some settings - I can view the page for the financial institution for my credit card but can't view my bank's web page??? I figure from this it must be some type of security issue, but.... I can't view some simple sites such as www.flycheap.com??? I'm using IE5.5 and and help/about ie/ it says 128-bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

5.5 is the most recent,lisa.
Karen, are you on a network? Is there a firewall installed?
With IE open go to "tools" and select "internet options". Seclect the securtiy tab, and then click on "default level". Set the slider to the lowest level and see if you can access secure web pages. You should be able to get to secure pages with either "low" or "medium" selected. Any Luck?

Thanks for the inputs but as of yet no luck. I reinstalled IE5.5 and changed (slid) the security to the lowest level. I failed to mention exactly what it does --- when I try to go to certain pages it will say at the bottom opening the page and the green bar will go about half way and appear to freeze up (although it doesn't lock up) it doesn't come up with the normal "The page cannot be displayed" it simply just sits there - as if it's going to open the page. It either just sits on the current page or has a white page with no messages. HELP!!

Try going to IE Tools/Internet Options, Advanced and under Security make sure a check is in the boxes next to Use SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0
HTH

Thanks again for the input, but I had read that somewhere - to check SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0 I've done all that and still no change. I had this problem once before when I took my PC in for repair and they replaced some things and I couldn't reach secure sites and I fixed it myself but can't remember what I did! It seems like it was something to do with the encryption - but when I go to help/about ie/ it says 128-bit, and that's what I need, right?? PLEASE HELP!!!

NEW TWIST!!! I usually connect through Compuserve but this morning I connected through JUNO and now I can access the sites!?? What sense does this make? I DON'T LIKE Juno and prefer to keep using Compuserve. Any help is appreciated - this is driving me crazy???
