hope responses to this post generate a lot of knowledgeable public support as ive grown very weary of this ongoing problem.
so here goes, its a long one. u might have to read thru more than once :)
first, heres some info about my computer system:
1. IE6
2. WIN98, driver version 4.10.98
3. CPU- processor AMD-K6 @ 350 mhz
4. ISP - charter communications
5. cable modem sb 4100 (hi speed internet access via cable tv)
6. ibm aptive - model #2153-E3U
7. ports - com1, com2, LPT1; device name LTWin modemnow on to the story. lol
when a webpage dialog box pops up from clicking a link on a website, browsing, etc. stalls. some things i am still able to do yet if i keep clicking buttons and right clicking for context menus the whole computer would freeze up and im forced to wait to see what happens, whether or not the browser, etc. will continue to function after a few minutes.
when it finally does (which varies at times, sometimes it never does so i have to reboot everything) the browser/computer would start to work again except that a script error box also appears with the error "server execution failed." i havent been able to close this box and i even get another popup window that says "server busy".
these are the things i already did with no success whatsoever (in no particular order except 1 and 2):
1. checked 'disable script errors'
2. unchecked 'display every notification...'
3. used repair ie tool
4. uninstalled then reinstalled both ie 5.5 and 6.0
5. performed hijackthis scans and fixed errors (as instructed by tech support)
6. defrag computer
7. clean out temp folders, cache, cookies, etc.
8. run diagnostics for errors - norton, checkout utilities
9. clean registry
10. rebooting computer and cable modem
11. run spybot search & destroy to delete adware/spiesmy main concern is #s 1 and 2. even though one is selected and the other deselected (both working to do the same function of preventing these annoyances) the script errors continue to pop up while clicking links that generate entrance and/or exit popups, making it difficult to autosurf or just clicking links that open other webpages with popups.
ive run out of solutions and have gotten nowhere with the things i already tried. i contacted my ISP thinking it might be a connection problem but didnt receive any reply yet.
the lights on my cable modem are all lit up, the activity button blinking so i know it is working. i ran a diagnostic on my modem and it is responding as normal (it says this on my device information "is modem responding? yes"). although the test results show otherwise:
Detect Dial Tone......................................Failed
Dial Tone Present............................Failedis a dial tone not detected on a cable modem but is only with dial-up?
i am able to perform other functions on my computer like run programs and opening web pages on my tabbed browser (green browser - IE based). just a lot of problems with script errors due to popups. my modem is a charter pipeline surfboard motorola sb 4100.
after all the above-mentioned steps ive taken to try to fix the problem why cant i stop those intrusive script errors?! did i miss something i havent tried yet? need a lot of help with this one.
hope that covers everything.

Firstly I would update and run your virus checker. Then try these freebies:
Ad-Aware.
SpyBot Search & Destroy.
CWShredder.
Spyware Blaster.I think we need to be certain that there is nothing lurking, before going any further.

You don't say, but if you are running Norton Antivirus, turn off the Script Blocking function.
It's known to cause errors.

maybe try Avast! free home edition AV.....you may have some viruses that your AV is not picking up....especially Norton, McAfee or AVG. Worth a try.

If you are running Norton then that's your problem. Best fix only lasted a week for me to the point that I now run without Norton at all and also no more script errors. Off or on as to Norton Script blocking meant instant or delayed failure only.
You might try reinstalling your Windows Scripting Host?
