I already posted a message, but was asked for more info. I'm using a 5 port hub, and I have tried tcp/ip on both computers with false ip addresses. I've tried netbuei on both computers, i've tried ipx/spx on both computers. I have both of them with file sharing. I've tried to ping the other computer in dos, didn't work. I can ping the computer i'm on though, and i can see that one in network neighborhood. I have a link light on both computers and two on the hub(one for each). They just won't talk to eachother!!! I'm wondering if it's b/c one computer is using win98 and one is using win95. I've tried using the find fuction to look for the other computer too, didn't work.

I've run into this program in my network as well. I find that if you enable file and print sharing while having IPX and TCP/IP installed on both computers that the problem is fixed more or less. Then depending on your network, just set up the TCP/IP to auto detect an IP or specify one (make sure you're on the same mask.) Let me know how it goes, and good luck!

My best suggestion would be to get rid of the tcp/ip, cause it's totally unnecesary on a two computer network (unless surfing).
Best idea is to blow away the stack all together and just simply bind NetBui to the NICS with file and print sharing. the ipx would only be necessary if you plan on playing games over the network.

Are both PCs in the same domain or work group? Also if ping is failing to connect (timing out)try adding the location of the other pc to your route table (route add) for help type route/? The last thing check if you have the correct gateway added in the Tcp/ip properties

Well, I tried all of your suggestions, nothing worked. I guess I will continue to play around with it, installing and reinstalling until it works. If you had any other ideas you didn't suggest, let me know!!! thanks for the suggestions anyways!

In your network control panel, set your primary logon to Client for Microsoft Networks, on both machines.
restart.
when the logon box comes up BE SURE TO SAY OK. If you hit cancel, file sharing services will not load. You do not need to enter a password, unless you have done so before. This fixes 75% of networking issues if your hardware is functioning properly.
