I've got 2 computers with a network card in each,
and a hub between them. I was able to drag-and-drop
to the other. Now I got a cable modem recently,
and if I try to unplug that to hook up to my other comp,
I can't see it on the network.I erased my hard drive and restored with win98 tonite.
Then I could see the other comp. Had to have the file
sharing box checked even though I wasn't sharing anything.
Otherwise I couldn't see the other comp.As soon as I try to put back my modem, then want to
unplug that to network with the other comp, I can't see it.
Even though I re-check the file sharing, and reboot.
It's a pretty bad scene here... What do I do?

hey...
cable modems come with its own nic cards right?
sounds really strange the way you described it, as if you are trying to use one NIC for 2 purposes?and oh, try "start" "find" "computers" and type in the name of your other pc, if it can be found, dont worry about it not being in the network neigbourhood
sometimes it take a while to appear
dat happens to me sometimes

nothing's working...
I found a bit of info though:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q192/5/34.aspnow... I'm starting to wonder if it would help if I bought a different type of network card?

http://www.wown.com aka http://www.helmig.com
and have good hunt/browse through Helmig's site.. He covers just about all the bases you need to check out...

I'm a little confused about why you are disconnecting the cable modem to network the two pcs. I have a cable modem, and a hub, and I networked my two pcs for sharing of a drive and a printer. The cable modem is connected to the uplink port on the hub, and the two pcs are connected to two other ports on the hub. Both pcs use the modem successfully to connect to the internet, and both can see each other through Network Neighborhood. Perhaps it's the type of hub that you have, not the cards, that's at fault...
