Comment:

I am running a network in a software testing lab. I have all windows OSes running (98, NT, ME, 2000, XP). Our testers have to access another computer to obtain data. All of the computers can see this computer, except the 98 and ME computers. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks in advance.

Did you give them each a unique IP Address and the same workgroup name? What protocol are you using? Are they all using the same protocol?

Kevin.

They all have unique ip addresses, but not static ones.

I am using TCP/IP protocol and they are all using this.

And they are all configured for the same workgroup.

Which OS is "this computer" running?

Could by any chance the contents of the workgroup be hidden from the Network Neighborhood, for the Win98 and ME computers?

Hide Workgroup Content from Network Neighborhood (All Versions)
Enabling this option hides all Workgroup contents from being displayed in Network Neighborhood.

Open your registry and find the key below.

Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value called 'NoWorkgroupContents' using the settings below.

Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.

Settings:
Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Network]
Name: NoWorkgroupContents
Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value: (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)

Disclaimer: Modifying the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. One cannot guarantee that problems resulting from modifications to the registry can be solved. Use the information provided at your own risk.

I don't see this being the problem. The two computers in question can see all of the other computers in the workgroup except the one I'm talking about.
