Hello All,
a friend of mine accesses many files off of a drive f: on a remote win98se system, she is using XP home. There is no problem accessing opening or altering files the problem comes when for instance an edited word (newreport.doc) file is edited and then you attempt to "save as" a new file name (i.e newreport2.doc), back to the f: drive. When you do this the following error/dialog occurs.
"the folder f:newreport2 isn't accessible or the folder may be located on an unavailable volume or protected with a password"
there is no folder i am trying to access or save, it is a Word file? It is like the OS is recognizing or thinking i am trying to access a folder by the name of the document i am trying to save. So it is seeing newreport2.doc as a folder trying to be opened not a document trying to be saved. Any ideas why this would be? or how to fix it?
i would greatly appreciate any info. thanks so much and have a blessed day,
Boutros
ps. There is a round about way to save the file, by copying it from the f: drive, to c:, editing, "save as" and then copy it back to f: but i hope to find another "real" solution. thank you

I know this may sound simplistic but, could you save the document on the XP machine's hard drive and transfer it back using say Windows Explorer. Not really a fix but at least it might be a work around.

I'm assuming that your using Word have you made sure that you have all the updates for it?

hello steven,
i will have to check about the latest Word updates. I assume it is but am not positive.
thanks,
boutros

Are you sure it isn't just a syntax error? You have to use the full path for Save as...
This doesn't look like a full path.
f:newreport2At the least it should be F:\newreport2.doc
If you are using a full path and it gives that error - I have no idea.sekirt

I have the same issue, believe to be a word problem because when i use wordpad there are no problems

According to other reports this may be due to the folder name being the cause. Try stopping the share, rename the folder then reshare with the original share name.
Also try removing Windows 2000 Update KB885250 if present.
