Hi,

Download and run the RNAV.EXE utility from Symatntec.

Hi Ceri

Thanks for the post, but I cannot boot to windows nor can I reinstall win98 until I rid the computer of NAV.

When reinstalling from c:\win98 on the hard drive (while in DOS mode), I can get to 32% and then the install quits ! ! !

I can't reformat because of the inability to load CD-Rom driver thus no ability to load from CD. . . .

Thanks for the imput,

lucky1

Hi lucky1, Ceri, hi everybody,

Why is that???
Get a Bootdisk for Windows 98 (Bootdisk.com) and you'll be able to load CD-Rom driver and reformat!

Have a good day,

Further on reformatting:

If you have a startup floppy made in Control Panel/Add-Remove (you should have) this will also do as a boot disk.

Note that the drive letter for your CD will temporarilly move up one (D becomes E or whatever).

Hi Frenchie, Derek and everyone else.

This is a Toshiba laptop with external drives and only the A drive is usable

I can not boot my computer. When in dos mode the boot disk will will not recognize the external PCMCIA CD-DRIVE, thus no ability to use my win98se CD to reinstall windows.

I have win98 loaded on my HD and when I try reinstalling I get to 32% and then the load stops ! !!

At that time Windows states it cant find the file path to install some files, but does not name the file or files it can't find. . .

I assume it is because Norton AntiVirus is still in residence, thus my reason to remove NAV.

I have tried to remove NAV while in DOS mode but when attempting to delete the files DOS denies the deletion! (c:\progra~1\norton~1\*.*)

I can't even format the drive and reinstall windows without the use of my PCMICA CD-rom.

This is really a weird one.

Thanks again for your help.

Sorry for continuously missing the point about the external drive!

Not sure if it will do any better but have you tried? :-

deltree /y c:\progra~1\norton~1

If not you could try moving through to the norton~1 folder, type dir and look for .exe files. You may have to do attrib -r -s -h in order to delete them. If you are not used to DOS and want this explained fully shout back.
