I stored some of my camera photos to a cd-r using Roxio cd creator 5 on a windows XP based system and did not finalize the disc so I could add more later. That computer died and I am using an older machine with windows 98se and only a cd rom drive. How can I gain access to this disc to read the pics? I am able to read cd-rw's fine. I did try to read them on a windows vista machine with roxio 9 with same results.

If you finalize the session then you should be able to access them. If you didn't finalize the session then I am not sure. I didn't think you could even do that.

Sure you didn't use the packet writer (direct CD or drag to disk)?

As I said, I did not finalize the disc. There were the options to leave it as is so more could be written, or to finalize so no more could be written, and a third that I don't remember. I do remember it stating that if left open that it could not be read in standard cd rom drives, and something about a udf reader needed. I have installed a udf reader but it doesn't help.

Finalizing a session and finalizing the disk are two different things. If using normal burning software you need to finalize each session but leave the unused space on the disk open for future sessions.
