Maybe someone else will grasp this but I have some problem understanding what you mean.

In IE are you trying to print the screen that appears when you go to "File/Page Setup" or are you having some problem printing web pages?

I'm not a Yahoo person but similarly, when you say you can't read your messages do you mean you can see their names but not get the messages to appear on the screen?

Nothing sounds like a virus so far...

Are viruses fragrant? Seems to be the first thing folks fixate upon, but there are many other reasons why things "don't work"

A continuation perhaps?

Hello Derek W. Let me clarify.
I can't print the IE page that is on the screen. When things were ok I would often have to change in file/page setup from portrait to landscape, this isn't functioning. And Yahoo mail problem is just as you say. I can see they've arrived, who they're from and date/time. That's just about all I can do. All my folders are sitting there but devoid of messages. I can't compose/send.
This all seemed to happen after finding that I could not auto update Windows 98 (having done so for many moons). Someone from here
suggested scan reg fix already existing in Win 98. This I did and then these funnies occured.

Thanks for your time.

Try a repair of IE. At the add/ remove programs in Control panel select Internet Explorer. You should get an option to repair, do so.

Yep, repair would certainly be the first thing to try. You were unlucky, scanreg /fix rarely upsets anything - it might have just been coincidence.

Thanks you two. IE repair sorted the print and page setup situation although my repair tool is via settings/msinfo32.
Your repair tool route did throw up another question. I have two IE entries at the add/delete list. The first numbered Q896727 clicked on says "Invalid info file". The second (Q903235) says "This program uninstalls Q903235 and restores your previous configuration. Do you want to uninstall Q903235"
Anything to do with my email problem ??.

Post the version of IE you are running. While in internet explorer. Click help> About internet explorer.

For info, repair should also work from CP/Add-Remove (when you double click "Microsoft IE & Tools"). Take care clicking any other entries there because they might remove something.

Q903235 is an IE security update but I have a job to see any relationship with web page printing.

Q896727 is a cumulative update. This could have some bearing on your problem unless it has been superseded by a later one. It looks a bit old.

My last message was before I had to go out. I rechecked my email on my return and your guidances did in fact cure it. I now have a functioning email. Many many thanks to you.
