Running work station on windows 98se, novell network 4.1? 4.3?. When running a dos based accounting package (Agris) and trying to print, keep getting error messages, or sometimes get bumped entirely out of agris program. It appears dos can not recognize the printer. printer works in windows type applications (excel, word). This computer worked fine a week ago, printing both from dos based and windows based programs. Printer (panasonic kx-p2123) is hooked directly to computer - not network shared. Not sure what might have changed since a week ago software-wise since multiple people hop on this work station.
Some things I have tried or considered:
Have tried all scenarios for spool and port setting.
Since not a networked/shared computer, was not given the option to check yes as to printing from MS-Dos applications during setup.
Tried the older versions of the printer driver. Thanks

Most DOS applications running on a Novell Netware network will require that a printer be captured to LPT1. DOS prints to LPT ports or to Disk files. It has no notion at all of Netware Queues.
In the properties of the printer that you are trying to use, make sure that the device selected is a Novell Print Queue in the Print to the following Port option. For example:
\\C3I_SERVER\Q1 is an entry at our site.
Then click on the button Capture Printer Port. Associate the DOS DEVICE (LPT1:) with the Netware queue that is being processed by the Network printer. If you want to make your life easier, check the Reconnect at Login Box.Restart your computer, Log into the network and Click Start, Settings, Printers. Double-Click on the printer you just set up and click the Properties. Try to print a test page. If that works, then go to an MS-DOS prompt and type DIR *.* > LPT1: and press the enter key. You should get a printed directory listing. Your MS-DOS program should work properly after that. Type EXIT and press <Enter> to get back to Windows.

Follow-up:
Tried the above suggestions, and a few others emailed to me - same problems.
Saw another post which referenced a shareware program called DOSprn 1.72. Can be found at:
http://www.dosprn.com/
Annoying until you pay for it (It overlays a "non-registered" statement over your printout).Solved the dos printing problems, plus even let me use a network printer in a dos-based program that does not allow printer networking.
Hope this helps someone else in the same situation - I was really beating my head against the wall.
