When I try to print from my computer screen I get this error message:

Line:228
Char:1
Error: incompatible version of the RPC stub
Code:0
Url:res://c:windows\system\shdoclc.dll/preview.dlg
An error has occurred in the script on this page
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page ?

Any help on what this means or how to fix it?

Thanks,
Lee

Go to IE Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab.
In the Browsing section turn off or deselect "Display a notification about every script error" and place a check next to "Disable script debugging".
Click Apply and Ok.

You can find this problem addressed in the MSKB. Did you search there?

As per this post, you likely need to extract a fresh copy of dispex.dll from one of the Win98 CAB files

Thanks for the link to the info, It looks like a new copy of the dispex.dll file is correct. The problem is I'm not sure how I do this ? And where do I get it from ? Is it on my computer ? Or on the Internet ? Could I mess up my computer by messing with these CAB files ?
Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks again,
Lee

The CAB files are CABinet files, and the ones in question are the Windows installation files on your Win98 CD - in the folder 'Win98' (go figure). Those files may also be backed up onto your hard drive - in either case, just use SFC to extract.

Look - Leebo - stop filling out the 'name' field with other peoples' names. That is not how it works - just leave it blank, it should automatically fill in your name

M$KB = Micro$oft Knowledge Base - they kinda 'wrote the book' on Windows issues

Everyone Thanks for all the help. Sorry about filling in the "Name" blank, I wasn't sure how it worked.

I fixed the printing problem by going to Microsoft.com then to the download area where I searched for windows script 5.6 for windows 98 / windows me / windows nt 4.0
I downloaded the file scr56en.exe

Printing is working great after that !!
Thanks again,
Leebo

That's not terribly surprising, since that file also installs dispex.dll

Several ways to do things - some are simpler than others (although maybe you enjoyed going through the validation rigmarole in order to retrieve scr56en?)

Thank you for using genuine Microsoft software
