Comment:

I've tried at least 5 different vcd players and they all give the same sad result -

"MMSYSTEM281 - can't play - format not supported or file may be damaged"

A while ago I could play the vcd without a problem.
I can't even copy the .dat file from CDROM into my HD.

Please I need help !

well i think if you try the add remove programs option in the control pannel you will find some thing that is called windows setup there you will find some thing called multimedia there select audio compression and movie compression and if that doesn't work try downloading windows media player 6.4

I've the same problem, except they are either MMSYSTEM277 or 296, or it would have the message "Your MCI Driver is being used by other program ..." I could use my player when I started to use Win98. Then there were several times I needed to load the player again. After I didn't use the player for awhile, I tried to do the same trick again. However, no matter how many times I tried to reload the player, it hasn't been able to work ever since.

I got the game Tony Hawk Pro skater 2. It didnt work. But I wanted to find a way to watch the videos and listen to the music which had an extension of dat. I downloaded every .dat player I could find but none of them would recognize my .dat files. I searched everywhere on the internet and even this message board but finally found an answer in a way people would convert there own music into the dat files for the game. I simply went through the process backwards. I dont know if this will help anyone but this is what i did.
I downloaded the bink coder from www.radgametools.com. Then I took my video and music files and renamed them from .dat to .bik. Then I used the bink coder to covert the music from .bik to wav and the video from .bik to avi. It worked perfectly. I hope this helps.
