When I try to open a website, I get this page cannot be displayed message. Other people have no trouble opening it on their computer. I have opened it on someone else's computer.
I have Earthlink DSL and they have worked with me for days trying to get my computer to open it, with no luck. I am using Internet Explorer 6, which I have reinstalled 3 times and run the repair. Does anyone have an idea that maybe I haven't tried yet? This is the website address:
http://home.earthlink.net/~lvopr8r/loop/
Thank you

Hi judygal, hello everyone
Check the host file and see if the site is located within it. The host file is located in C:\Windows and can be opened using Notepad.
Best Regards,
Mesich

Not sure if this is going to help whatsoever but I'm sending you 2 utilities for 'netbios'
I had problems similar to yours and this was the cause.
1 turns netbios on the other turns it off.
The files were got from http://www.grc.com

Try using the Firefox browser (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/)
It's much safer from adware and spyware and is just as easy to use as IE6. I tried your website with firefox and it displays fineThere are two types of people in this world: lazy people and stupid people.

First: Thanks Indigian, that Steve Gibson is some kind of guy. Just another of a long string of good references I've picked up from these discussions. It's almost to the point that I don't talk computers to anyone who doesn't read this site. Second, I now have extreme problems opening one particular website. It's the A&E tv website, so I can go to the discussion boards. It worked fine until I put in Avast!. Now two or three times a day I can open it from history and get the basic load, but no graphics. Then my whole system freezes up. Any suggestions?

I don't use Avast! myself, but try setting the security to medium or, if must, low. It's not a popular Antivirus among users - havn't heard of anyone using it. Try using Zonealarm or some other firewall, Ad-Aware or Spyware Search + destroy, with AVG antivirus, all of which have liveupdate. These 3 make a formidable team against comp threats.
