Problems with Internet Explorer. Page loading time has slowed drastically. Try to open a new window by right clicking a hyper link, it freezes completely. Click on any javascript link, no popup appears and the window with that source link freezes. Ran diagnostics, reinstalled op system, tried run regsvr32 on all the .dll files -- shell32.dll produces this message: "shell32.dll was loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. DllRegisterServer may not be exported or a corrupt version of shell32 may be in memory."
Anyone have this problem, know a soution?

Try cleaning out your Temporary Internet Files. Go to Tools/Internet Options/General tab/Delete files and select 'Delete all offline content'.

Good suggestions, but I tried those. I clean the temp files daily, and my virus software (Norton Corporate with LiveUpdate) can't find anything. Another stream here suggested mcrepair.exe, it worked for someone else, but not me. It's not completely stopping the computer from working. Anything local (editing in Word) is fine and at normal speed. I can get on the internet and do simple stuff; as long as I don't try to open a new window, click a .jpg image, or do anything with java, it will hold sorta stable. Very confusing!!

Steve, Type mcrepair.exe into the search box above then click Go Search where you'll find the probable solution. Your problem is possibly that you have the wrong version of oleaut32.dll for Windows 98.
"shell32.dll produces this message: "shell32.dll was loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. DllRegisterServer may not be exported or a corrupt version of shell32 may be in memory."
The above message you're getting is standard for Windows 98/98SE and is nothing to worry about. Microsoft should have mentioned that fact in there KB Article but I guess that's too much to ask.

Hi, Tufenuf -- seems like this problem is your specialty, LOL.
It didn't solve the problem, but it was most educational. Checked the version on my oleaut32 file -- it was 2.40.4515, so that seems about right. Mcrepair three times, no luck. Then I found IE Repair (kinda counterintuitive to put it inside the request to remove the program, but I guess that's Microsoft logic...). Got the following:
--------------
Internet Explorer 6 could not be repaired. Please run setup again to reinstall all components.
--------------
Internet Explorer 6 cannot be repaired due to the following errors:Version 3.0.8168.0 of file ATL.DLL exists, but the verison needs to be greater than 3.0.8449.0. File CSSEQCHK.DLL is missing.
--------------Well. There ya' are. OK, I 'm going to try running setup again, see what happens. Yeesh. Stay tuned...

Update:
Reloaded IE 6.0. IE Repair now runs without dropping dead, so that's a good sign. Version number on oleaut32 is 2.40.4518, shows it was updated today, so that's another hopeful sign.
But...
Still when I try to right click to open a new window, it just stops. No new window, the existing window freezes for about two minutes. I can open another Explorer window on top of it, but I've got no Open New Windows, no java popups. When I click on a link or image that should open in a new window, it just doesn't. The window will free up again in about two minutes, but beyond that, bupkis.
Heaving it out the window starting to look like a desireable option. Practical, no, but desireable. :-)

Steve, Try the following again:
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem in Internet Explorer, follow these steps: 1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.
If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below): • Shdocvw.dll
• Actxprxy.dll
• Oleaut32.dll
• Mshtml.dll
• Browseui.dllI don't know what else to tell you to try. If you have any pop-up stopper type program or Firewall installed try disabling them and see if that corrects the problem.
Tufenuf

Yep, tried that. No luck.
Now you want to hear the fishy part? I just launched AOL 9.0, used the browser within AOL? No problem. Opens new windows, runs Java, no problem. This all started with/when I downloaded AOL's damned SpyZapper. I just wrote them and asked for instructions on removing everything AOL but the main operating system. It might help.
Sigh. Very perplexing.
Thank you for the help, gonna keep trying.

I've got the same problem. New windows will not open except when I run IE from inside the Windows Explorer screen. I too am being told that Shell32.dll may be corrupted.
I am using Windows 98, am networked through as router and the other computer uses XP. I also recently loaded Blueyonder pC Guard.Took it off again, thinking it had caused the problem, but no improvement. Any luck, Steve? Any help anyone?John

I recently had a customer with the same problem. This isn't why the computer was brought in, but I noticed it while working on it.
She uses WalMart dial up and it opens new browser windows with no problems.
Her IE, however would open the frames of new IE windows but would never load the actual page. Upon closing the empty window, IE would crash and give me an error. Something about a fault in an spc*.dll file
I did a lot of research and found pretty much the same things you have tried. Nothing worked. With all the time I spent on it, in hindsight, I should have just re-installed 98.
However, the computer has since been returned. But I am curious to know the solution to this problem. I honestly think it's a combination of incorrect or incompatible library files. Just my two cents.
Still not worth spending hours on it. My advice? Just re-install 98 if you can and be done with it. Hell, it might clear up some other potential future problems, too.

Did you try registering Shell32.dll again?
Try these two as well:
Msjava.dll
Browseui.dllAny Popup/Ad blocking software installed?

I had the same problem where any new IE window was opening an empty shell with the page not loading. Internet Explorer was hanging.
I went to this page and it mentioned fixing winsock:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/community/columns/IEtopten.mspxWinsock repair utility:
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.htmlAfter running the winsock fix and rebooting IE was working correctly.
A warning though, if you have a custom hosts file the utility wipes it clean so back it up just in case.
Good Luck!

Nice post. I'm still watching this one. It's an old post (probably about to become read-only), so I hope the original poster is still around and comes back to get your input.
