Cant open Comunications Port---SIMPLE

i know this is fixiable, i just put a modem in a computer and it recognizes it and installs the software for it and everything in the properties says its working properly, but in the diagnostics screen when i try to communicate with it by clicking on COM 5:Motorola........ then clicking on MORE INFO, it comes up with an error window that says "CANT OPEN PORT" and at the top it says "OpenCOMM" i know this is fixable, HELP PLEASE!!!

Hrm, checked for IRQ conflicts? (Properties) Of course the other thing is to try uninstalling and re-installing protocols. (I am not sure the method of communications with this kind of diagnostic testing and is only a suggestion.)
to pcc: Not really. You can have a Com5 without a com3 or com4. Most internal modems nowadays have a chip in them that tells windows they are com5. They do that so the user is free to use com3 and 4 for other devices. Com1 and 3 use the same IRQ and com2 and 4 use the same IRQ. You will only get conflicts when two devices (ie 1 on com and 1 on com3 or one on com2 and 1 one com4) need to work at the same time (if his modem was on com3 or com4 then that would've been a conflict with the mouse). Just reinstall it.
