Here's the guaranteed solution.

The exe (randomly named) is a backdoor Trojan. (A SUB7 variant or PolyDrop)

It hooks into your system in such a way that this program is executed anytime you try to run an EXE program. It would appear that your antivirus has detected and removed/quarantined it. Now that it is no longer there, the registry entries still exist, and windows is complaining about the missing program.

Download the Rx-Pack from the link below.

http://home.earthlink.net/~rmbox/Reticulated/Toys.html

Inside run a program called ExeFix08.COM.

It will fix(set them back to Windows defaults) the registry entries that are stopping EXEs from being executed.

After running the program, you will be able to run EXEs again but the Trojan may still be there in the System.ini or Win.ini files.

Run the EDIT-WI program to help in editing the WIN.INI file and
EDIT-SI to edit the SYSTEM.INI file.

If you run the Startlog.com file, it will list all of the potential hiding places for Trojans and can be used as confirmation after doing the above steps.

BTW, since this Trojan potentially allows someone access to your PC, immmediately change ALL of your passwords.
