Can't open a word file

Please help I have an important word file that will not open. It says 'The document name or path is not valid. ...'The document will open as quick view, but the format is important as has to be printed onto a form. I've tried renaming it as a txt file but there's loads of junk. I've also tried saving it from within wordpad, but it still won't open in word. I've also tried virus scanning the file but it doesn't find any viruses. Are there any programmes that will recover the information or is there anything else I can try?

Have you tried? Open as quick view, select file Open file for editing (this will open note pad) Select, file, Save As, (new name) save (in My Doc’s) Open Word select, open In, File of type, select, All Files, open Save As Word Document (in My Doc’s)

I open in quick view then try to 'open for editing' but it tries to open word but fails as before. Any other ideas.

Maybe it doesn't like the path the file is in. Try saving the file in the root directory (c:). Be sure the file is only 8 characters long.

“tries to open word but fails” Is that WORD pad or MSOffice Word?
Quick view normally uses notepad!
“saving it from within wordpad, but it still won't open in word.” If it opens in wordpad have you tried copy and paste in MSword then save as Word Doc. How big is the file.

could be a file association issue. Either that or a WORD "version" issue where you're trying to open a file formatted in a higher version than what it was saved in.
