can't listen to internet radio

September 6, 2007 at 23:42:42
Specs: Windows 98 se, pent/256

Internet radio is streaming radio from www.streamaudio.com, I get it by going to a radios tation's website and clicking on 'Listen'. A second browser window opens up, displays some ads, and is supposed to display buttons for Play, Stop, and some other things and then begin to play.

The play, stop, and other things buttons do not appear and it doesn'play. I upgraded from internet explorer 5.5 to internet explorer 6. I installed sun java. These actions did not work.

I uninstalled the sun java and installed the old ms java virtual machine. With this installed I went to one site and a radio station played. But others did not.

I think part of the problem is the ms java. I tried to uninstall the ms java following instructions I got on the web but it would not uninstall. I tried reinstalling the sun java but it would not install. I click on the file I downloaded from sun at www.java.com but nothing happens. The hourglass appears for a few seconds then goes away. I notice that the program appears as a process in the ctrl-alt-del task window. If I stop this process and try to use IE6 I get a blue error screen and IE6 crashes. So a separate issue is I am unable to uninstall ms java or install sun java.

An example of the internet radio is at www.kfog.com. Why can't I get it to work on my windows 98 machine?

Wel l did some research and it turns out Sun no longer supports windows 98 with java. Anyone else heard about this? It was just a few days ago that when I was on my windows 98 computer that it showed Java 6 JRE 1.5 for windows 98.
