✔ Best Answer

Is the Win98 disc bootable? If not, you'll need the Win98 boot floppy to get the ball rolling.

If your system doesn't have a floppy drive, you can use a boot CD instead.

That message means your cdrom is having a hard time reading the cd in it. Either the drive has a dirty lens or is failing or the cd in it is too worn or scratched to be read.

We need to get some idea on what you've installed it on. How much ram, what size hard drive, cpu type and speed, etc.

What happens if you attempt to boot from the hard drive? Do you get some error messages? Does it boot to windows if you boot from the CD? If so, how do you magically accomplish that?

It might be something as simple as the hard drive partition not being set active. You can check that by running FDISK. Or maybe there was some problem with the installation. How did you get it installed if it wasn't reading the 98 cd?

Your guress is a good as mine. I have never had any problems but this has really baffled me. I downloaded from the cd it went in smooth, and when windows came up it was fine; but after I shut it down and then turned it on again all I got was a black screen but when I put the cd in it came right up. It shows that it is programed in c drive and it also has windows file. I wouldn't mess with it but I am trying to fix it for a special ed class and the learning programs they have only work with win 98. Could you please tell me how I can format the program out of c drive so I can maybe re install? Thanks

You need to supply specs or a model number for your computer.
