All new pc kit. Have wired up the new hdd correctly.
ABIT KT7 CMOS set to Auto.
Can't find drive.
Put the drive in old machine and it is not found either.
Placing a hard drive from my old pc into the new one is recognised.
The hard drive is IBM 45GB ATA100 7,200rpm. The floppy and the CD rom is detected.
Any suggestions. I cannot enter the details manually for the drive as I am asked for landing zone and precomp which I have no info for.

is the hard drive a primary harddrive or secondary. Make sure the jumpers are ok on the back of the hard drive. You will have to revert to the manual to find out how the jumpers should be as they are different for every hard drive. Make sure the ide cable is right way round and power is going into it.

bye

to answer your question I have only one hard drive. Jumpers are set to 'Device 1 Master'. IDE cable installed with red wire towards power connector end.

You can get the specs on the HD at IBM.com
but mine has that info on the sticker on the HD, look at the line CHS: xxxxx/xx/xx, which is cylinders, heads, sectors.
Has the HD been set up, fdisk and format?

Exactly, OB.
It's been my experience on the majority of drives that wpc (write precompensation) is usually none. LZ (landing zone) is the last cylinder.
Red wire goes to 'pin 1'
Is there a 'stand alone' jumper - sometimes this is different than 'master'
Does the drive spin up, does the hdd light come on?
