I don't know about McAfee, but Norton does not uninstall itself well.
It leaves so much stuff behind, it's like nothing was removed at all.
There are two programs at symantec's site that will help a little. They are RNAV.exe and Symclean.
After running these programs, you'll have to remove the Norton folder and all it's contents. Unbelievably these programs do not remove the Norton folder or sub folders.
Then you'll have to do Registry search and manually remove every reference to Norton and Symantec.
When you're done with that you need to remove the 5 files that are associated with the LiveUpdate feature. Do a search for files begining with "lui" and that are associated with Symantec. Don't remove any that do not have Norton or Symantec to the right of them as there are other files that have those letters that you don't want to delete.
Then, if you're not crazy yet, go to Symantec's site and do a search for instructions on how to remove the svgr files that will trip up any attempts to reinstall Norton.
Boy, do I long for the days when Peter ran the company. As soon as he sold out to Symantec, they went down hill.
